Digital Materials:

Gender Letter Writing Kits

Nervous about never writing a gender letter before?

That’s okay, let’s practice!

The materials below are part of an interactive training on writing gender letters for transgender or gender diverse clients seeking gender-affirming care services or treatment.

This immersive “kit” provides an opportunity for practitioners to have a chance to practice writing one of these letters. The main activity includes instructions as well as a letter template to fill out as you learn the various components and language. To guide the activity, a fictional client file is provided for whom you are writing the letter. To offer ample practice, there are three total case files created for different fictionalized clients seeking different procedures or treatments.

Lastly, a sample completed letter offers an example to further aid the activity and provide examples of structure and language.

The Accompanying Letter Writing Workshop

These materials are also a part of an interactive, facilitated workshop on writing gender letters (you may have even been directed here from such a training in order to get additional copies!)

This activity and its materials are free to be downloaded as well as shared (with proper attribution).

If you would like to experience the full letter writing workshop as intended with the instructional presentation and a facilitated experience with real-time feedback, (along with physical materials if conducted in-person) reach out to Coltan to schedule a letter training.

Workshop Testimonials

…one of the most impactful presentations I have experienced.

…Coltan is an incredible speaker and left our students inspired and uplifted about the gender letter writing process. It is an understatement to say that Coltan is not only incredibly insightful and engaging, but organized and hands-on. The letter writing activity they walked us through was met with ease (and fun!) and something for which all clinicians and providers should be ready and equipped for.”

-Dr. Candice A. Maier

Associate Professor & Clinic Director, MS Marriage and Family Therapy Program, University of Wisconsin - Stout

“…incredibly informative and provided clear, practical guidance. It not only enhanced my understanding but also bolstered my confidence to write these important letters when needed.”

-Shanika Torres, MA, MEd, LPC-S

“…an in-depth look on how to ethically provide letters for individuals needing them. I feel more comfortable and confident that I can provide my clients with the treatment they are deserving of.
